Grizzlies Defeat No. 4 East Lyme

Bryce Meder pitched a complete game shutout, leading the Guilford Grizzlies past the CIAC Class L, No. 4 ranked East Lyme Vikings. The win improved the Grizzlies' record to 9-3 and moved them into 6th place in the CIAC ranks.

Meder's performance was accompanied by some great defensive plays, as all 3 Guilford outfielders, Carter Williams, Lucas Ametrano & Sam Ametrano, robbed East Lyme hits with diving catches at key moments in the game.

East Lyme starter, Alex Dreyfus, was keeping pace with Meder, as Guilford would go scoreless for the first 3 innings, and could only muster 4 hits in 5 innings vs. the Vikings' lefty. In the top of the 4th, the Grizzlies would score 2 on a bases-loaded walk to Colin Pompano, and a RBI ground out by Alex Vincent.

Neither team would score in the 5th, then in the top of the 6th, Guilford got an insurance run on Sam Ametrano's RBI single that scored Williams to make it 3-0, Grizzlies.

In what has become a characteristic of his game, Meder finished strong recording 3 of his 5 total strikeouts in the final 2 innings, earning his 2nd shutout win of the year against a very tough opponent.

Sam Ametrano had 2 hits and a RBI and his brother, Lucas Ametrano, also had 2 hits in the win. Bryce Meder allowed just 4 hits over 7 innings in his shutout win. Besides his performance on the mound, he also recorded one of 5 Grizzly hits in the game.

Up next for the Grizzlies is a key stretch of games as they begin the 2nd half of their SCC schedule. On Friday, Guilford will be in Milford to take on Jonathan Law, who they defeated 3-2 back on Apr. 5th in a walk-off. Then on Monday (5/1) and Wednesday (5/3) they will try and avenge 2 of their 3 losses vs Hand and West Haven.
