2022 Toy Drive a Huge Success - More than 100 Toys Donated to YNHH

Sep 26, 2022

On two separate dates back in May of this year, the GHS Varsity Baseball & Softball teams combined their efforts to host a Toy Drive to benefit the Yale New Haven Hospital's Toy Closet Program. The events were conducted by the Guilford Baseball Boosters and the Guilford Diamond Club.

The Baseball Toy Drive took place during what was supposed to be the Guilford vs. Hand Varsity Baseball Game at GHS, although the game was postponed after a few innings due to bad weather. Despite the weather, many fans of both teams showed their generosity and dropped off a new, unwrapped toy or gift card to support the cause. A very special thanks to the Daniel Hand High School Baseball Community that contributed much to the effort!

The Softball Drive took place the following week during their home game vs. Branford. Between the two teams, more than 100 toys and gift cards were collected for pediatric patients of YNHH!

The Toy Closet Program was started in 1993 by News 8 Anchor and long time Madison resident, Ann Nyberg, along with the YNHH Auxiliary, and has been an enduring success over the years. The GHS Baseball & Softball Programs are proud to have contributed to this cause, as the Program has supplied hundreds of thousands of toys to YNHH locations and their pediatric patients since its inception.

Thank you to everyone who participated and your generosity toward our efforts!
